As some of you know, I ended up turning down the long-term subbing position for kindergarten. However, I was lucky enough to get one in my home district for a 6 week term for middle school library. The librarian had her second baby this past Saturday, and she is the cutest thing ever!!! Her little cheeks are so cute and chubby. It makes me excited to think about having kids. Oh my! :)
My first day was yesterday and I absolutely love it! We had such an insane day - catching up on everything from Monday's cancellation, taking care of the iPads, updating the school calendar, checking in/out books, gathering the books for this month's genre, decorating for Black History Month, and starting a new project that I wanted to start for February.
I'm doing "Blind Date with a Book" this month in the library. It's when we wrap up the books so that the students can't see what they're picking based on the cover art. So many students only pick books based on the cover or they only pick the same authors over and over again. There are so many other good books out there that they aren't even considering! So I'm hoping this way, students will be more inclined to not judge a book by it's cover, but by the content within! Of course, we are letting them know a little bit about each book. For example we'd say something like, "historical fiction, set in Nazi Germany, survival story, suspense, etc."
As of yesterday, my clerk and I picked about 100 books for the blind dates. Now we just need to wrap them and set up the display!!
