As promised, here are the pictures from February's Blind Date with a Book and some recent shot's of our March Madness in the school library. All of those wrapped books are just some of the 90 books that my clerk and I wrapped up for the blind dates. I've got to give it to her, she was a champ and wrapped like 70% of them. I was busy making the bulletin board, creating valentines to hang around the school, writing our little tidbits for the morning news, creating the "rate your date" slips, and doing other normal librarian things.
These are some of the valentines that I made to hang around the school to get students interested in checking out a blind date. Of course, I made them as cheesy as ever! I found the doily hearts at The Dollar Tree for only $0.69! And I also used them on the bulletin board in front of the library doors.
Please don't mind the busted bulletin board. I had to work with what we had. It just so happened to be missing a piece of the wooden boarder, but no biggie.
I can't find the website where I got my inspiration for this sign! I would love to link it to the site where I originally found the idea. If anyone finds it, let me know!
Here are more pictures of the blind dates. The students especially loved the books with the little hearts attached. Those were always the first to go.
The students in the following pictures have been blacked out, so as to protect their identities. Though you can't see their faces, they were all smiling big! This girl in the top picture ended up getting the most blind dates - 6 books! She's a reading fiend! :)
Yes, boys also got checked out blind dates, but they refused to have their pictures taken.
Okay, now onto March Madness! We had to start it a little early because I'm only going to be staying until the 14th. We're already off to a good start! Today was actually the last day to vote for the first round picks. Overall, we had over 145 students make predictions as to who they think will win the Battle of the Books. Almost 100 of them predicted The Hunger Games...obviously this beat out Game Changers in a landslide! The next round starts tomorrow! The students were already trying to vote at the end of the day today for the next round. They must have been super excited.
*No, your eyes aren't deceiving you. That "B" is made out of an upside down 3 and an exclamation mark and the "L" is actually an upside down 7. Needless to say, we were missing a few letters. Talk about getting creative up in this piece!*
